Knitting for Charity

After several months of knitting, the Knitting for Charity group finished and donated 17 snuggle blankets and 3 cat beds for the cats at New Beginnings Animal Rescue in Royal Oak.  Our visit helped us understand how the rescue works first hand and we got to interact with some beautiful cats as a bonus.  If you are looking for a new furbaby (either kitten or adult cat), check out NBAR at 2502 Rochester Rd between 12 and 13 mile.  They could have the purr-fect match for you!

Bound Together

Bound Together is a free program that provides tutoring and meals throughout the school year for elementary aged children attending Pontiac schools.  TWA supports Bound Together with donations, tutoring and putting together a library of books for the children. From 4-6 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday reading is stressed, Thursday is mathematics, and Monday is art alternating with cooking classes. Students learn core building blocks in a warm and comfortable environment, eat together with friends and learn in a fun and dynamic way.

Animal Rescue

"This year the Animal Project focused on two local animal rescue organizations, New Beginnings Animal Rescue in Royal Oak, and Michigan Animal Rescue League in Pontiac.  We shopped and delivered needed supplies and as a bonus, got to visit with some of the animals available for adoption.  If you are looking for a pet, these groups are the perfect place to go for your new furry companion."

Breakfast for City Hall

Every spring, TWA women serve breakfast for the workers at Troy City Hall.  This year was no exception. 

Boys and Girls Club of Troy

Troy Women’s Association provided $1,250 in financial assistance for two special programs offered to the young people attending the Boys & Girls Club of Troy.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math).  $450 was earmarked for STEM which teaches students problem solving, teamwork and critical thinking skills.  The funding will be used to purchase necessary supplies.

RAD (Rape Aggression Defense).  $800 was allocated to allow twenty girls and twenty boys to attend these classes at no cost.  This is the first year boys have been offered the opportunity to participate in the gender-specific program.  The RAD system begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance while progressing to the basics of hands-on self-defense.

Baby Basics of Troy Ministry

Baby Basics of Troy Ministry is a non-profit volunteer organization that provides and distributes diapers and kindness to low-income working families who do not receive governmental cash assistance. It gives support by providing a sense of community for those who otherwise could slip through the cracks of society. Baby Basics hopes to enhance the quality of their lives as well as keeping their babies happy and healthy. The Troy Women’s Association supports Baby Basics by volunteering during their distribution days. We also provide financial support to help defray the cost of diapers.

Winter Warmers

This year we collected over 600 items for donation to local charities who distribute hats, gloves and scarfs to those in need.  The committee sets up trees around town and the community makes and buys items to decorate the tree with. At the end of project, the donated items were distributed to: Baldwin Center, Lighthouse, Judson Center, Safe Harbor, Grace Center for Hope, South Oakland Shelter, and various schools as well.
